MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A writ petition has been moved in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court against the AJK Election Commission’s decision to accept the nomination papers of Acting President and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Chaudhry Latif Akbar on Saturday.

According to sources, senior lawyer Raja Gul Majeed Khan Advocate filed a petition on behalf of assembly candidate Raja Bashir Khan from Latif Akbar’s constituency, LA-31 Muzaffarabad-V.

The petition contends that the Election Commission set aside the Returning Officer’s decision and accepted Akbar’s nomination papers despite objections and material already submitted before the District Returning Officer (DRO), which, according to the petitioner, should have been considered in accordance with the law.

The petitioner has requested the High Court to declare the Election Commission’s decision null and void, cancel the acceptance of Chaudhry Latif Akbar’s nomination papers, and direct that the matter be reconsidered in accordance with the relevant legal provisions

The High Court has started preliminary proceedings after receiving the writ petition, while further orders will be issued after hearing the arguments of the parties in the next hearing.
