MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Returning Officer on Wednesday rejected the nomination papers of Acting President of AJK Chaudhry Latif Akbar from constituency LA-31 (Muzaffarabad-V Khawara), declaring him ineligible to contest the upcoming AJK Legislative Assembly elections.
Following the decision, Chaudhry Latif Akbar’s legal team filed an appeal, and proceedings on the matter were held before the relevant Returning Officer.
According to details, the officer announced the decision after hearing arguments from both sides regarding objections, ruling that Latif Akbar is not eligible to contest the election while holding the office of Acting President of the State.
Following the decision, his legal team has said that they will first approach the Election Commission, while further appeals may be filed before the High Court and Supreme Court if required.
Reacting to the development, Political Secretary to the Acting President, Chaudhry Murad Ali, urged party workers to remain confident and maintain high morale.
“This election will be fought vigorously, and our position will be successfully presented legally and democratically,” he said.
