MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The recent violent protest and road closure by the Banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) have severely impacted the Businesses associated with the tourism sector in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to local stakeholders, a significant number of tourists have either postponed or cancelled their visits due to disruptions in transportation and uncertainty regarding road access to popular destinations.
Representatives of the hotel industry, transport operators, and small business owners said the decline in tourist arrivals has resulted in financial losses for businesses that depend heavily on seasonal tourism. They noted that hotels, restaurants, transport services, and daily wage earners have been among the most affected.
Business community members argued that prolonged disruptions could damage the region’s reputation as a tourist destination and negatively affect economic activity linked to the tourism sector.

According to sources, shortages of fuel and essential goods are being reported in a number of areas as transportation and supply chains continue to face difficulties.
Residents in several areas have been rushing to buy food and other essential supplies due to uncertainty over future supplies amid the prevailing situation in the region, with many stocking up on weeks’ worth of provisions.
Authorities have alleged that individuals associated with the recently proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) were involved in incidents of looting at petrol pumps and shops.
Transporters are also reluctant to move goods on roads because of security concerns, including fears of arson by JAAC and road blockades.
