MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The process of filing nomination papers for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections continues as 147 nomination papers have been filed so far across Muzaffarabad district.
According to the Election Commission, nomination papers have been filed in all five constituencies of Muzaffarabad district since the commencement of the process on June 9.
Candidates belonging to different political parties and independents have filed their nomination papers.
The constituency-wise breakdown shows that 31 candidates have submitted nomination papers from LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I (Kotla), 33 candidates from LA-28 Muzaffarabad-II (Lachhrat), 34 candidates from LA-29 Muzaffarabad-III (City), 21 candidates from LA-30 Muzaffarabad-IV (Hattian Dupatta), and 28 candidates from LA-31 Muzaffarabad-V (Khaora).
As per the election schedule, the nomination process will continue until June 23 in accordance with the revised election schedule issued by the AJK Election Commission.
Candidates and their supporters continue to arrive at the offices of the Returning Officers, while the number of those submitting nomination papers is expected to increase further as the deadline approaches.
755 candidates submit their nomination papers
According to the Election Commission data, in total, 755 candidates have submitted their nomination papers from 45 constituencies. It includes 264 candidates from Mirpur division, 152 from Poonch division, and 146 from Muzaffarabad division.
Moreover, 146 candidates have submitted their nomination papers so far from the 12 constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir refugees residing in Pakistan.
The spokesperson said that the last date for submitting nomination papers is June 23.
On the other hand, the process of distributing tickets among political parties has not been completed. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Muslim Conference, and Jamiat Ahle Hadith, among other parties yet to issue tickets to their candidates.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has issued tickets to candidates for 37 constituencies, while the final decision on candidates in nine constituencies has not yet been made.
