RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Work continues on M-13 Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway project at a rapid pace under the effective institutional support of the Special Investment Facilitation Council.

According to details, the M-13 Motorway project is being upgraded to 117.2 km six-lane Motorway.

The up graded motorway will be a strategic, fast and safe alternative to the existing M-2 Motorway

According to Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, the SIFC also played a key role in the revival of the stalled M-12 Sialkot-Kharian Motorway project.

Similarly, M-11 Lahore-Sialkot Motorway is also being expanded from 4 lanes to 6 lanes with the efforts of the Special Investment Facilitation Council.

Upon completion of the M-11, M-12 and M-13 corridors, 50-60 percent traffic between Lahore and Rawalpindi will be shifted from M-2 to the new route.

This corridor will further strengthen connectivity and enhance trade activities between Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Sialkot, Afghanistan, China and Central Asia.

The project also includes construction of three tunnels in Kallar Kahar mountains, which will help reduce the traffic accidents.

The project would provide a faster and shorter route to Islamabad from Lahore than the current Lahore-Islamabad route.
