ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan is celebrating its 79th Independence Day today, with festivities and patriotic celebrations beginning across the country at midnight.
Government and private buildings, homes, markets and public spaces have been decorated with national flags and green-and-white decorations, while the national spirit can be seen in cities, streets and neighbourhoods across the country.
Special lighting displays and fireworks are being held in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan and other cities as citizens take part in Independence Day celebrations.
People came out onto the streets in large numbers, while rallies and other celebratory events were organized at various locations to mark the historic day.
The celebrations reflect the nation’s spirit of patriotism, unity and pride as Pakistan marks 79 years of independence.
Yadgar-e-Fatah monument inaugurated in Islamabad
Moreover, the Yadgar-e-Fatah monument in Islamabad has been inaugurated, commemorating Marka-e-Haq, in Islamabad on Thursday night as part of the grand celebrations of the 80th Independence Day.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal Asim Munir inaugurated Yadgar-e-Fatah on the eve of the country’s Independence Day.
Chairman Senate, Speaker National Assembly, Federal Ministers, Service Chiefs, and other senior civil and military officials attended the ceremony.
A large contingent of personnel from the military marched past along with paramilitary forces and police, presenting a guard of honour.
Police personnel from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, as well as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, FC KP, and Balochistan, Punjab, and Sindh Rangers were part of the contingent.
The monument features five archways, which represent the five pillars of Islam, as well as the five pillars of Pakistan itself, including the government, the military, the media, the people, and the ideology underpinning the nation.
