WASHINGTON, DC (Kashmir English): The United States has issued a new safety caution for the Middle East region, warning American citizens about the risks of increasing tensions in the region and possible flight interruptions.
In a statement, the State Department reminded Americans who are situated in the Middle East to be extremely careful and be ready for potential cancellations, possibilities for a shutdown of air travel, or a general disruption.
The advisory states that there are fighting actions between Iran-backed Houthis and Saudi Arabia, including military operations against civilian airports. Moreover, according to the U.S. government, this armed conflict could grow rapidly.
Americans who are outside the Middle East have been warned to think carefully before making a trip to this region or passing through the Middle East and monitor the work of airlines closely in case they have decided to travel there.
The State Department has also warned that U.S. embassies, including those outside the Middle East, can be attacked and that Iranian agencies or the people who support this country can make attempts to attack the interests of the U.S. abroad, including businesses and some institutions.
The alert has been issued as the U.S. keeps high travel warnings for some nations in the region. At the moment, Saudi Arabia is placed at Level 3 — Reconsider Travel, while the UAE, Qatar and Oman also have Level 3 travel advisories. Travelers are advised to verify the latest U.S. travel advisories by country and confirm flight operations with the airline before travelling.
