US Diplomat reports progress in Iran-US negotiations

BURGENSTOCK (Kashmir English):  The talks held between the US and Iran in Switzerland showed promising results in various key aspects concerning the region, such as securing the Strait of Hormuz and de-escalating tensions in Lebanon, an American diplomat told an American news website.

The diplomat pointed out that the talks were productive and both parties stressed the need for implementation of the ceasefire, as well as the methods of preventing escalations in the region.

As was informed by the diplomat, considerable achievements have been reached regarding keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, which is a strategically important international maritime passage. The US has once again expressed its desire for the strait to be kept open to all kinds of maritime transportation.

Furthermore, the diplomats discussed ways to decrease tensions in Lebanon, considering how to promote stability in the region.

Moreover, the diplomat added that a basis for future meetings between the representatives of politics and specialists has been established.

“All four sides appeared satisfied with the progress made today,” the diplomat was quoted as saying.

The negotiations were held on Sunday in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, where Iran and US delegations were present under the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar.

In this level of diplomacy, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir received US Vice President JD Vance, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and the Prime Minister of Qatar.

Prime Minister Shehbaz termed the meeting an essential move towards peace and prosperity at the global level, and he felt confident about the result of the talks.

US Vice President JD Vance observed that the establishment of peace throughout the Middle East region remained an essential objective of the US, and that America was ready to make a complete turnaround in its relationship with Iran.

The Prime Minister of Qatar also called this meeting a historical one, which was not only important for regional security but also for global economic security.
