LONDON (Kashmir English): More than 72,000 visitor visa applications from Pakistani nationals were refused by the United Kingdom over the past year.
The non-refundable application fees from those rejected applications amounted to an estimated £9.2 million.
The UK rejected more than 585,000 visitor visa applications worldwide during the same period.
Based on the current £127 visitor visa application fee, the refusals generated an estimated £74 million in application fees despite no visas being issued.
For Pakistani applicants alone, the estimated £9.2 million collected through rejected applications is equivalent to more than PKR 3 billion at current exchange rates.
The visa applications require administrative assessment; the scale of revenue generated from refusals raises concerns about transparency and whether unsuccessful applicants are bearing a disproportionate financial burden.
