SANTIAGO, Chile (Kashmir English): A skydiver from Thailand has set a new world record after landing on the world’s highest active volcano.

According to Guinness World Records, Tanaboworn Sirikunakornkun, known as “Super Toom”, completed the landing on Ojos del Salado volcano in the southern Atacama Desert in northern Chile at an altitude of 5,442 metres above sea level, marking the highest skydiving landing ever recorded.

Previous world record

He broke the previous world record of 5,317 metres set in 2023.

The 48-year-old, who is also a real estate businessman and university professor, describe the view from the height as extraordinarily beautiful.

He said the site was remarkable, with mineral colours creating a rainbow-like appearance across the volcano.

During the jump, his mobile phone slipped from his pocket as he exited the aircraft.

Sirikunakornkun began skydiving in 2024 and has since completed more than 1,250 jumps.

He said the aim of the record was to promote Thailand and bring pride to its people.
