SDMA warns citizens of heavy rains, landslides as Monsoon begins in AJK

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Monsoon rains have begun across the country, with various regions enjoying the season’s first rain.

Intermittent thundershowers are also being experienced in various parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The weather has become pleasant in Muzaffarabad and its surroundings, while the weather has started to turn cold in the higher reaches after the rain in the Leepa Valley areas.

Heavy rains have triggered landslides and floods in Azad Kashmir, prompting the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) to issue a weather advisory.

The Bagh Sadhan Gali Muzaffarabad Road has been closed due to a landslide at Nindahi, and citizens and tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel

Due to the heavy rains that lash in the early morning in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, water has accumulated in several low-lying areas and on roads.

An increase in the water level has been recorded in Nala Lai, while the rain continues intermittently, which has made the weather pleasant. 68 mm of rain has been recorded in the city so far.

Clouds have also started falling in various cities of Punjab. It rained in Gujrat and Gujar Khan, while dense clouds covered Lahore. Rain is also expected in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and other cities.

The Meteorological Department says that this year’s monsoon season is expected to receive 25 percent more rain than usual. The intensity of rains has been predicted to be higher in Punjab, which has also raised the possibility of urban flooding in urban areas.

The Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
