LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert in view of the ninth and final spell of monsoon rains in Punjab.
The Meteorological Department has forecast rain in most districts of the province through September 17.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, intermittent rain is expected across various parts of Punjab from today until September 17; consequently, district administrations have been directed to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures.
The Meteorological Department states that rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, and Murree.
There is a risk of urban flooding in the event of heavy rainfall in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, and Faisalabad.
There is also a risk of landslides due to rain in Murree, Galyat, and other hilly areas. Rain has also been forecast for various other regions, including Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan.
PDMA Director General Saif Anjum Jappa has directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain alert, noting that all district administrations have been informed in advance in accordance with the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
He instructed the administration to ensure preemptive measures are taken to address the potential risk of urban flooding in major cities. There is a threat of urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad, as well as a risk of flash floods in rainwater drains.
Meanwhile, rain is also expected in various parts of Sindh; strong winds, dust storms, and rain have been forecast for Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, and Tando Muhammad Khan through September 16.
Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms is also expected in Karachi from September 14 to 16.
