Govt to allocate special funds for AJK press clubs, journalists

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar has announced that the government will allocate special funds for journalists of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and their press clubs in the budget of the next financial year.

He said this during a meeting with Syed Abid Hussain Shah, President of Kashmir Press Club Mirpur Azad Kashmir, in Islamabad on Tuesday, the details of which were given in a press release issued by the press club.

In this meeting, the President of Kashmir Press Club Mirpur, apprised the Federal Minister about the problems faced by journalists of Azad Kashmir, especially the Mirpur Press Club.

They discussed in detail the provision of journalistic services in the region, the role of the media, and institutional development.

Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, while assuring all possible cooperation to resolve the problems faced by journalists of Azad Kashmir and strengthen the press clubs, said that the government is well aware of the problems of journalists and a coordinated strategy is being adopted to resolve them.

He further said that the government is also in touch with the owners of media houses so that the dismissed journalists can be reinstated in their jobs.

He said that the problems of media institutions will also be resolved on a priority basis, so that steps like expelling journalists are not taken.

The federal minister made it clear that the PML-N government stands with journalists and will continue to stand with them in the future.

Additionally, he announced that a special budget will be allocated in the next financial year for journalists working in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and their press clubs.

On this occasion, President Kashmir Press Club Mirpur Syed Abid Hussain Shah thanked the federal minister for the financial assistance provided by the federal government to the club, which helped journalists to perform their professional responsibilities in a better manner according to modern requirements.
