MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has submitted a no-confidence motion against Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq formally in the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat, marking a significant political turn in the region.

The motion, presented before the Senior Special Secretary Amjad Abbasi, was submitted by the Assembly members – Chaudhry Qasim Majeed, Javed Ayub, and Malik Zafar.

The Members of the Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir moved this no-confidence motion under Article 18(4) of the Constitution of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 1974.

In the motion, the PPP leaders stated that ”We move this resolution that the present Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, by his style of governance, political discourse, and anarchic behavior, has not only lost the confidence of the Legislative Assembly but has also seriously damaged the constitutional, ideological and democratic structure of the State of Azad Jammu and Kashmir”.

Based on the above reasons, the Members of the Legislative Assembly expressed no-confidence in the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, and formally presented this motion before the House in the next session of the Legislative Assembly.

”We demand that the movers accept Mr. Faisal Mumtaz Rathore as the candidate for the Prime Minister and that the process of electing the Prime Minister be completed at the earliest as per the constitutional and democratic requirements, so that the continuity of government formation is ensured in accordance with the Constitution.” PPP leaders further stated.

In conclusion, the party leaders wrote that we hope that the Honorable Speaker will take action to present this motion in the House in accordance with the constitutional judges.

Sources close to the party revealed that the prime minister, Anwarul Haq, may quit the post before the formal voting process starts.

The PPP-PML-N parliamentary alliance with Anwarul Haq, after running for 30 consecutive months, appears to be reaching its end, paving the way for the fourth Prime Minister in Azad Kashmir within four years.

The PPP, which had 17 members in the 53-member Assembly, has been joined by the backing of 10 members belonging to Barrister Sultan Group and Forward Bloc, with the support of all nine PML-N members.

In total, support for the no-confidence motion has reached 36 members, though the PPP leadership claims more than 40 votes could be secured in the voting process. If it succeeds, the PPP will come to power in Azad Kashmir for the sixth time in fifty years and bring an end to the tenure of Chaudhry Anwarul Haq.
