WANA (Kashmir English): Security forces foiled a major terrorist attempt in Lower South Waziristan’s Wana by taking timely action, killing one Khawariji and destroying an explosive-laden vehicle, state-run Radio Pakistan reported on Saturday.

Sources said that the operation prevented a potential catastrophe in Wana and the surrounding areas, with one terrorist killed and five others injured.

It was reported that the explosive-laden vehicle destroyed in the operation was intended for a suicide attack.

During the operation, the troops ensured the safety of innocent civilians with utmost professionalism, security sources said.

“Security sources said that the security forces kept the suicide vehicle under continuous surveillance for three days and targeted it only after it had moved away from a populated area.”

In the successful operation, the explosives-laden vehicle and a motorcycle were destroyed while one Khariji was killed and five others were injured.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the security forces for foiling the major terrorist attempt.

“Security forces saved the population of Wana and surrounding areas from potential destruction by conducting an intelligence-based operation,” he said in a statement.

Naqvi noted that the security forces destroyed a vehicle and motorcycle loaded with explosives with utmost professional skill just before the attack.
