ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) has dismissed reports circulating on social media that its systems have been breached, terming the claims “false and unfounded”.

The reports alleged that the database, which includes information of citizens, including CNIC numbers, photographs, and biometric information, is being offered for sale on the dark web.

However, in a statement, the NADRA spokesperson rejected the claims, saying that the post itself acknowledges that this claim is unsubstantiated.

The authority confirmed that it has conducted a “comprehensive technical investigation” in coordination with the National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT) and the National Telecommunications and Information Security Board (NTISB).

“No evidence of any breach of NADRA systems or unauthorized access to citizen data was found,” the statement added.

The spokesperson further said that the sample images being circulated are also inconsistent with the format in which NADRA captures and stores citizen data and have also previously appeared multiple times on different platforms in the past.

The NADRA further questioned the authenticity of the claims, adding that there is no evidence that any breach of NADRA systems has occurred as claimed in the post.

“How much data was stolen? None. No citizen data has been compromised as claimed,” the authority questioned.

“There is no security incident requiring remediation,” the spokesperson responded to users over the questions that when will the issue be resolved.

“NADRA nevertheless continues to monitor such claims in coordination with the relevant national cybersecurity agencies,” the statement concluded.
