Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development. This marks the first time the company has publicly announced plans for a next iteration of this popular game.
The announcement came as part of WB Discovery’s second-quarter 2026 shareholder letter. It ends months of speculation around potential sequels spurred on by rumors and job listings tied to its developers at Avalanche.

As for why video games are still such an important area for WBDS’ long-term ambitions when it comes to its Studios division, the company points to its recently refocused gaming strategy.
In other words, it’s betting big-time on just four key, multi-million-dollar (more specifically, they’re over $1 billion) franchises. At least, from what is expected about WBDS’ new plan, it will be investing heavily in these four major properties, but narrowing down the number of projects on which it wants to spend time, money, and effort to those which have a far greater chance at success.
For example, during Q2 this year, Warner Bros. launched both LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – which is being touted by the studio as having been “the highest rated LEGO game ever,” and Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, the second mobile game based on the Game of Thrones franchise.
Warner Bros. added that it now expects to see a bigger contribution from its Games business to its bottom line due to an expanding slate of games coming down the pipe – such as the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.
Details Are Still Under Wraps
Unfortunately, beyond confirming that there was one planned, Warner Bros. didn’t say anything else about Hogwarts Legacy’s sequel at all.
There isn’t an announced release date, launch window, any gameplay info, or even a list of platforms yet known to be working for the second installment.
This means we don’t know how Hogwarts Legacy’s sequel plans on changing or expanding what was originally done with the first game either, which may have been hinted at in the shareholder letter.
It is important to note here that Hogwarts Legacy was developed by Avalanche and launched on PCs as well as on consoles from PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
