ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A murder case has been registered against an unknown individual after 17-year-old TikTok star Sana Yousaf was shot and killed at her home in Islamabad, it came to light on Tuesday.
The murder case was lodged at Sumbal police station on Monday evening based on a complaint by Sana’s mother, Farzana Yousaf. Police have applied Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with murder.
According to the first information report (FIR), a copy of which is available to media platforms, Farzana stated that a man entered their house suddenly around 5 pm carrying a pistol. “Shot straight at my daughter with the intention to kill,” she said.
The FIR added that two bullets hit Sana Yousaf in the chest, leaving her critically wounded. She was rushed to hospital but passed away from her injuries.
Farzana described the attacker as a man with a “smart appearance, moderate physique and height”, dressed in a black shirt and trousers. She said she and her sister-in-law, Lateefa Shah, witnessed the attack and would be able to recognise the shooter if seen again.
Farzana also mentioned that her 15-year-old son was not at home at the time, as he had travelled to their native village in Upper Chitral. Her sister-in-law had been visiting them for a few days.
Police confirmed that 17-year-old TikToker and student Sana Yousaf was fatally shot at her residence in Islamabad’s G-13/1 sector yesterday.
The victim, originally from Upper Chitral, was found dead in her home under the jurisdiction of Sumbal Police Station. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Sana Yousaf had gained popularity on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, where she amassed a significant following, with nearly 800,000 followers on TikTok and around 500,000 on Instagram.
The shocking killing of 17-year-old Sana Yousaf has drawn comparisons with other recent incidents involving social media personalities.
In January, a man in Quetta admitted to killing his 15-year-old daughter after returning from the United States, reportedly due to his objections to her TikTok videos.
In the same month, two male TikTok users lost their lives in separate incidents in Lahore when their guns went off by mistake.
TikTok remains hugely popular in Pakistan, with over 54 million users. The app has faced repeated bans in the country over concerns about content, being blocked four times in 2021 alone. It is currently accessible but operates under stricter monitoring, including the removal of flagged material.
