MOSCOW (Kashmir English): Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert Khorev has said that Russia and Pakistan are working to launch their first freight rail service connecting Moscow with Karachi and Faisalabad.

Khorev said in an interview with Russian news agency Izvestia that Belarus is also being considered as a potential partner.

Albert Khorev added that the two countries are working to establish freight rail service in both directions on the proposed Moscow-Karachi and Moscow-Faisalabad routes.

He said that the implementation of the project had to be postponed several times during 2025 and early 2026 due to increased geopolitical tensions in the region.

Albert Khorev said that the parties are currently finalizing the freight services agreement and identifying companies in the countries included in the proposed route that are interested in transporting their goods through this route.

The proposed railway links will provide a land freight link between Russia and Pakistan, which could help further strengthen trade and transport links between the two countries.

A few days ago, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk announced that negotiations are underway between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Pakistan to establish a free trade zone.

Alexey said on the sidelines of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting on August 6 that our expert group has already completed a round of joint consultations with Pakistan. We expect that formal negotiations for the establishment of a free trade zone will begin in the near future.
