ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The electricity rates might go up by Rs 2.52 in a month, as the Central Power Purchasing Agency filed an application appealing to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to implement the adjustment in case of July’s fuel price.

The CPPA made a request for this adjustment in accordance with the monthly Fuel Price Adjustment system already in place at NEPRA. The public hearing on the issue for the month of August is scheduled for the 27th.

The request stated that electricity produced on diesel charges Rs. 50 per unit. The electricity produced with the help of imported coal in this case costs Rs. 54.47, while power derived from imported liquefied natural gas costs Rs. 47.37 per unit.

In case the adjustment is approved, the electricity rate will go up by Rs. 2.52 for the respective billing period. However, the exact financial result will depend on NEPRA’s decision resulting from the hearing.

The Fuel Price Adjustment refers to variations in the prices of fuel that power generation companies use, which are periodically transferred to consumers after NEPRA regulation and approval.

According to the NEPRA schedule, the CPPA’s request will be reviewed by NEPRA during the public hearing on August 27.
