LAHORE (Kashmir English): Kia has increased the prices of its hybrid vehicles in Pakistan by up to Rs1.2 million following a rise in the sales tax on hybrid cars.

The new prices apply to hybrid variants of the Kia Sportage L and Kia Sorento. According to the available information, the price increase is mainly due to the higher tax and not a direct increase by the company.

The Kia Sportage L 1.6T FWD HEV has become Rs900,000 more expensive, with its price rising from Rs11.299 million to Rs12.199 million.

The price of the Sportage L 1.6T AWD HEV has increased by Rs1.059 million, from Rs12.240 million to Rs13.299 million.

Meanwhile, the Kia Sorento 1.6T FWD HEV now costs Rs16.299 million, compared with its previous price of Rs15.299 million, showing an increase of Rs1 million.

The Sorento 1.6T AWD HEV has received the biggest increase among variants with an earlier listed price. Its price has gone up by Rs1.2 million, from Rs16.699 million to Rs17.899 million.

Kia has also announced a price of Rs18.999 million for the Sorento 1.6T AWD PHEV. However, no previous price was provided for this variant.

The price changes come after the sales tax on hybrid vehicles was increased to 25%, compared with the previous rates of 8.5% or 12.75%.

Kia is not the only company to increase hybrid vehicle prices following the tax change. Other automakers, including Toyota, Honda, Chery, Suzuki and Hyundai, have also revised prices of their hybrid models.

The latest price increases are therefore largely linked to the higher sales tax, which has increased the overall cost of hybrid vehicles for buyers in Pakistan.
