ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the appointment of Mike Hesson as Pakistan’s white-ball head coach for the national men’s cricket team. His tenure will officially begin on May 26, 2025.
The decision was made following a thorough review of multiple applications submitted for the role, which became vacant after Pakistan’s recent tour of New Zealand in April.
Hesson brings a wealth of international coaching experience, having previously led teams like New Zealand and Kenya. He is also currently in charge of Islamabad United, the reigning champions of the HBL Pakistan Super League.
Regarding Pakistan’s white-ball head coach appointment Mohsin Naqvi stated, “I am pleased to announce the appointment of former New Zealand cricketer and renowned coach Mike Hesson as the white-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s team.
PCB also confirmed the appointment of former test fast bowler Aqib Javed as its new Director of High Performance.
Aqib, who played 22 Tests and 163 ODIs for Pakistan between 1988 and 1998, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has previously served as the interim head coach of the Pakistan men’s national team.
“Mike brings with him a wealth of international experience and a proven track record of developing competitive sides. We look forward to his expertise and leadership in shaping the future of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket. Welcome to the team, Mike!”

Additionally, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced that the tenth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 10) will resume on May 17, following a brief pause caused by recent hostilities with India.
In a message posted on social media, Naqvi welcomed the return of the league with enthusiasm, stating: “PSL 10 picks up from where it left off! Six teams, zero fear. Let the aura take over as we unite and celebrate the spirit of cricket.”
The remaining fixtures include eight thrilling matches, with the grand final set to be held on May 25.
The league’s restart was made possible by the recent ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India, which eased regional tensions and created a safer environment for sports events to continue. Security and logistical arrangements are being finalised to ensure a smooth and secure tournament.
All six franchises will return to action, and Naqvi extended his good wishes to the players and management of every team: “Best of luck to all the teams!”
