JHELUM VALLEY (Kashmir English): A leopard has killed livestock in the Mirabkot village of Jhelum Valley district on Monday, creating panic and causing heavy financial losses to a local resident.
According to reports, a villager, Waqar Rehman Awan, lost five animals, including a cow, an ox, and three goats, worth over Rs 2 million, in repeated leopard attacks over the past three months.
The incident occurred when the leopard entered a suburban area near the border town of Chakothi and killed a cow. Residents said this is the second major attack on his livestock in recent months.
Residents of the area expressed serious concern over the growing presence of wild animals near populated regions, saying that such incidents have become increasingly frequent.
They urged the Wildlife Department to take immediate steps to capture or relocate the leopard before it causes further loss of life or property.
