KOTLI (Kashmir English): A police constable has been critically injured after gunfire was opened on police personnel during the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) protest in the Kala Dhab area of Kotli, Azad Kashmir.

According to the available details, Constable Abdul Rauf of the Azad Kashmir Police was struck by a bullet when police moved to clear a road that had been blocked by protesters, causing difficulties for commuters.

Police reportedly took action to restore traffic flow, following which armed individuals among the crowd allegedly opened fire on the police personnel.

Constable Abdul Rauf sustained critical bullet injuries and was shifted to DHQ Hospital Mirpur for medical treatment. The incident has raised questions over the nature of the violence during the protest, with authorities pointing to the reported firing as evidence that at least some individuals in the crowd were armed.
