SYDNEY (Kashmir English): Former Australia opener and Karachi Kings captain David Warner was arrested on a charge of mid-range drink driving in Sydney’s east on Sunday after failing a breathalyser test.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that police were conducting random breath testing when a van allegedly stopped short of the site and parked.
Officers approached the vehicle and subjected Warner to roadside testing, which resulted in a positive result. Warner, 39, was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station.
The former Australian player has been charged with middle-range drink driving and is due to appear in court in May.
Warner retired from international cricket in 2024 after racking up 8,786 runs across his 112 Tests and has continued to play in the Big Bash League and other cricket leagues across the globe.
He has recently appeared in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as Karachi Kings’ captain and was granted permission to return to Australia for personal reasons for a week.
The Kings last played on April 2, with Warner scoring a half-century during a win over Rawalpindiz. The team’s next game is on April 9 against Peshawar Zalmi.
ESPNcricinfo reported the arrest will not affect his plans to return to Pakistan as scheduled, and he is expected to be available for that game.
It will be the Kings’ first match at their home venue in Karachi, with Warner’s side the only team to boast a perfect record at the PSL this year, having won all three matches.
