ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday predicted rain, windstorms, and thundershowers across the upper parts of the country till September 6.
The weather advisory stated that monsoon currents are penetrating upper regions, and a westerly wave is also likely to approach from August 31 and may persist till September 5.
The isolated heavy falls are also expected in several areas, raising the risk of urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides.
Under the influence of this weather system, rain, wind, and thundershowers (with isolated heavy falls) are expected in Azad Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpu from August 28 to September 6 with occasional gaps.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar in Gilgit-Baltistan from August 30 to September 6.
In Islamabad and upper Punjab, wet and windy weather is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, and Hafizabad from August 29 to September 5.
“In Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang. Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, and Pakpattan, the weather system will persist from 01 September to 05th September with occasional gaps.”
“In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Rain-wind/thundershower (with isolated heavyfalls) is expected in (Peshawar. Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra. Abbottabad, Haripur from 29th August to 05th September, while in Karak. Tank, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Bannu, Waziristan from 01 September to 04th September with occasional gaps,” the Met Office added.
Mainly hot and humid weather is expected to prevail in most parts of Sindh and Balochistan during the forecast period.
Possible Impacts
The meteorological department added that heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Lahore from August 31 to September 5.
“Heavy rain may cause flash flooding in local streams/ Nullahs in Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi during the forecast period,” it added.
The Met Office also issued an alert regarding landslides in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir during the forecast period.
Tourists and travelers have been advised to remain cautious during the forecast period, while farmers have been advised to manage their crop activities, keeping in view the weather conditions.
