KARACHI (Kashmir English): Despite the issuance of new official flour prices by the Commissioner Karachi, citizens across the city are being forced to purchase flour at higher rates.
According to reports, different categories of flour, including chakki flour, fine flour, and 2.5 number flour, are being sold above the officially government-approved rates in various areas of Karachi.
As per the official price list, chakki flour was fixed at Rs 150 per kilogram; however, retailers are reportedly selling it for around Rs 160 per kilogram. Similarly, fine flour, officially priced at Rs 121 per kilogram, is being sold at nearly Rs 140 per kilogram in several markets.
The official price of 2.5 number flour was fixed at Rs 113 per kilo, but it is being sold at Rs 130 per kilo.
Retailers have blamed flour mills for this increase in flour prices, saying that flour mills have made flour expensive as soon as the official rates were issued.
Retailers argue that they cannot afford to sell flour at government rates when they themselves are purchasing it at inflated prices.
One retailer stated that if the administration ensured the availability of flour at lower wholesale prices, they would have no issue selling it according to the official rates.
