KABUL (Kashmir English): Residents of Mandisar village in Daman district of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province are facing a severe shortage of clean drinking water after underground water levels reportedly dropped by 20 to 40 metres, according to Afghan media outlet TOLOnews.

The sharp decline in groundwater has affected not only access to drinking water but also agriculture and residents’ daily lives. Local elders said the water crisis has made it increasingly difficult for villagers to meet their basic needs and sustain agricultural activities.

Village elders, including Juma Gul and Mohammad Sadiq, said the provision of clean drinking water is their most urgent demand. They also called for the repair of heavily damaged roads, which they said have further compounded the difficulties faced by residents.

The elders urged the authorities to take immediate measures to address the water shortage and improve basic infrastructure in the village. Afghanistan has been facing broader water-supply challenges, with groundwater depletion and water shortages affecting communities in several parts of the country.
