MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has declined to shun the wheel-jam and shutter-down strike call given on June 9 despite government demand.
Shaukat Nawaz Mir, core member of Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, while reading out the declaration at the end of the negotiations, said that negotiations continued throughout the day between the Joint Awami Action Committee, the Government of Pakistan and the Azad Government. During this, various issues were discussed in detail and proposals were considered.
According to the declaration, during the negotiations, representatives of the Government of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir demanded to postpone the wheel-jam and shutter-down strike call given on June 9, however, the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee rejected this demand and decided to maintain the June 9 call.
Shaukat Nawaz Mir appealed to the public, citizens across the state and overseas Kashmiris to further intensify their preparations for the June 9 protest program.
“JAAC welcomes every serious effort made by govt”
He said that the Joint Awami Action Committee welcomes every serious effort made by the rulers to resolve public issues and will continue to support such measures in the future, however, the public struggle will continue until the demands are met.
After the declaration, it has become clear that the statewide wheel-jam and shutter-down strike announced for June 9 is currently in place, while further announcements will be made in case of future developments regarding the negotiation process.
Meanwhile, Rana Sanaullah, a member of the high-powered committee formed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan for negotiations with the JAAC, said that the negotiations with the Joint Awami Action Committee have not failed at all, and the dialogue will continue in the future.
Speaking to the media, Rana Sanaullah said that during the negotiations, the government and the Joint Awami Action Committee presented various proposals to each other.
Further discussions and consultations on these proposals will continue from next week to reach an acceptable solution.
He said that the Azad Kashmir government, the opposition, and the Pakistan Muslim League-N have decided to call an All Parties Conference to review the current situation and public demands, in which all stakeholders will be taken into confidence.
The proposals of the Joint Awami Action Committee will also be considered in the All-Parties Conference, and a final stance will be adopted in light of the opinions of all political forces.
Rana Sanaullah stated that during the negotiations, several important issues were discussed, including the 12 seats for refugees.
In response to a question, he said that the general elections in Azad Kashmir will be held on time according to the constitution and law.
Regarding the long march and protest call, he expressed hope that the situation would improve as a result of negotiations and political consultations, and the matter would be resolved through mutual understanding.
