Islamabad weather: Light rain turns weather pleasant in federal capital

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The moderate rain in various parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi (Islamabad weather update) on Wednesday evening made the weather pleasant and significantly reduced the intensity of the heat.

A significant drop in temperature was recorded after the sudden rain, while the atmosphere became cool and pleasant.

The rain came after the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) of the NDMA issued an alert of rain, thunderstorm, strong winds and hail in different parts of the country during the next 12 to 24 hours.

The NDMA said that rain is expected in different parts of Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, while strong winds and hail are also possible at some places.

PMD weather forecast

Earlier on May 19, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted wet weather with dust-thunderstorm and rain expected in the upper parts of the country from May 19 to May 23.

The PMD said very hot weather is likely to prevail in the southern parts of the country in the coming days, saying that a westerly wave has approached the northwestern parts of the country on May 18, and it is likely to persist in the upper parts of the country till May 23.

Under the influence of this weather system, dust-thunderstorm/rain with isolated hailstorm is expected in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Peshawar, Bajaur, Mohmand, Orakzai, Khyber, Kohat, Kurram, Hangu, Waziristan, Bannu, Laki Marwat, and Karak.

In Punjab, rain is expected in Islamabad, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Khushab, Joharabad, Bhakkar, Layyah, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Lahore, Shei­khupura, Okara, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahuddin, Sialkot, and Narowal.

As far as Gilgit-Baltistan is concerned, there is a likelihood of wet weather in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, and Shigar during the said period.

In Kashmir, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur are likely to receive rain till May 23 with occasional gaps.

The Met Office warned that the windstorm and lightning may damage weak structures during the forecast period. It also advised farmers to manage their activities in accordance with the rain prediction.
