MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) High Court has fixed September 9 for the next hearing of several important constitutional petitions, including alleged delay in presidential elections.
Moreover, cases related to the constitutional status of the 13th Constitutional Amendment, powers of the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and the registration of political parties will also be heard on the same day.
According to sources, the writ petitions could not be heard on the scheduled date due to the unavailability of the larger bench. The court subsequently directed that all the related constitutional petitions be fixed for hearing on Wednesday, September 9.
As per the details, the petitions will be heard by a larger bench comprising Senior Judge Justice Syed Shahid Bahar, Justice Sardar Muhammad Ejaz Khan, and Justice Chaudhry Khalid Rashid.
The constitutional petitions include Syed Ali Abdullah v. Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Speaker of the Assembly; Raja Abdul Hameed Khan v. Azad Government; Hanif Malik v. Azad Government; Raja Zulqarnain Abid and others v. Speaker of the Assembly; Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf v. Election Commission; and All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference v. Azad Government.
The petitions are considered significant as they raise key legal and constitutional questions regarding the constitutional structure of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the powers of state institutions, the electoral process, and political parties.
At the next hearing, the court will examine the legal points raised in these petitions and the positions of the parties.
