ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Meta, the parent entity of Instagram, has introduced Instagram’s Teen Accounts together with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). Teen accounts are designed to provide greater online protection to youth users in Pakistan with tighter controls.

The feature automatically enrolls users under 16 into Teen Accounts, blocking unwelcome contact and filtering mature content, but enabling secure online discovery.

The Teen Accounts launch event was joined by Meta, UNICEF/NCRC, and other significant child protection stakeholders. The event featured awareness sessions and live presentations on online safety features, complaint channels, and best practices for young people’s digital well-being.

Speaking at the event, Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, HI (M) SI, reiterated PTA’s focus on creating a safer digital environment, reiterating that the introduction of Teen Accounts should safeguard Pakistan’s youth online.

Dr. Priyanka Bhalla, Meta’s South Asia Head of Safety Policy, welcomed PTA’s ongoing partnership, stating that Meta’s global safety efforts are enabling millions of teens around the globe, including in Pakistan, to have a secure online experience.
