NEW YORK (Kashmir English): Apple has quietly increased the prices of several older iPhone models following the launch of the iPhone 18 series and its first foldable iPhone Duo on September 9.
Usually, Apple reduces the prices of older iPhone models after introducing a new generation. However, the company has taken a different approach this year, increasing the prices of several existing models by $100.
iPhone 16 price increased
Before the September 9 launch event, the iPhone 16 was available for $699. The price had been reduced to this level following the launch of the iPhone 17 last year.
Apple has now increased the price of the iPhone 16 to $799, bringing it back to the same price at which the device was originally launched in 2024.
iPhone 17 and 17e become more expensive
The iPhone 17e, which was launched in March at $599, will now cost $699 after a $100 price increase.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 17, launched in September last year for $799, will now be available for $899.
The iPhone Air has also become more expensive, with its price increasing from $999 to $1,099.
Why did Apple increase prices?
The latest price increases are unusual because Apple generally lowers the prices of older models after launching new iPhones.
The increase has been linked to higher prices of chips and other components. Apple’s former CEO Tim Cook had also pointed to rising component costs in a statement some time ago.
The company has also priced the new iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro Max $100 higher than their previous-generation counterparts.
