ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to take action against WhatsApp accounts linked to inactive, cancelled, or unused SIM cards, citing concerns over the misuse of inactive mobile numbers in illegal activities.
According to details, the PTA has stated that WhatsApp accounts associated with mobile numbers that are no longer active may be blocked. The regulatory authority has warned that inactive or unused numbers can potentially be exploited for unlawful activities, creating security and privacy concerns.
The PTA has advised WhatsApp users to ensure that their accounts remain linked to active mobile numbers. Users who have changed their mobile numbers or discontinued the use of their previous SIM cards have been urged to update their WhatsApp accounts with their current active numbers.
The authority has also emphasized the importance of keeping mobile registration details up to date to avoid disruption in access to communication services.
Users who continue using WhatsApp on a number that has been deactivated or cancelled could face difficulties if the number is subsequently blocked or reassigned. Keeping WhatsApp linked to an active number can help users maintain uninterrupted access to their accounts and reduce the risk of unauthorized use.
