ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): As the winter season has started in Pakistan, the government is likely to increase the gas prices in Pakistan.

According to the sources, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has formally submitted the gas price hike proposal to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

The company requested a Rs. 125.41 per One Million British Thermal Units (MMBTU) increase for the consumers of Sindh and Balochistan. This is an increase being proposed for the current financial year.

The Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) has sought the average gas price for Sindh and Balochistan at Rs. 1,783.96 per MMBTU.

A public hearing on this will be conducted by OGRA in Karachi on November 11.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the opening of gas connections for domestic consumers across the country.

This announcement was made during the launch ceremony of RLNG gas connections, in which the Prime Minister said that gas connections for domestic consumers were a major need and a long-standing demand of the people.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “Gas connections for domestic consumers were a major requirement. The government has decided to open gas connections across the country to fulfill this important need.”

He reminded that during the PDM government in 2022, gas supply was a major challenge, and it was not possible to fulfill the important demand of the people.

The Prime Minister said, “Gas was not available at that time, so I had to apologize to the people, but today, the restoration of gas connections has fulfilled the long-standing demand of the people.”

Shehbaz Sharif said that millions of applications have been received for new gas connections, and with their early approval, a domestic gas facility will be provided to the citizens.
