WASHINGTON, D.C: In a major diplomatic breakthrough for Pakistan, the country’s Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir met US President Donald Trump over lunch at the White House in Washington, DC.
As per reports, the rare meeting between Munir and Trump is being held at the White House Cabinet Room.
Earlier, the official presidential diary showed that the one-on-one meeting is scheduled for 1:00 pm in the Cabinet Room at the White House, 10 pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST) on Wednesday.
This development came after both countries witnessed an increased bilateral engagement at the government level this year. The US president also brokered a ceasefire between Pakistan and India following days of hostilities and offered to resolve the longstanding Kashmir dispute.
As part of his visit, COAS Asim Munir met with members of the overseas Pakistani community in Washington, DC, where he received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from those who had gathered to meet him.
During his interaction with the diaspora, the army chief recognised the key contributions made by Pakistanis living abroad.
He praised them for acting as Pakistan’s ambassadors and acknowledged their strong role in supporting the country’s economy through remittances, investments, and achievements in various fields.
