MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The residents of the Digwar region in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) Haveli district have launched a protest in order to demand essential services.

The protest has led to significant traffic disruption, where the main road at Tongairi Bridge has been blocked causing severe nuisance for the commuters.

The protest, which began on June 11 2025, highlights a range of grievances primarily centred on severe electricity shortages and inadequate infrastructure.

According to the protestors, all three local transformers are in disrepair, and only a single transformer working on a single coil serves their village.

A key concern raised by the citizens is the protracted power cuts. They claim that while some areas receive electricity, Digwars Akhori itself receives electricity for two days only.

Furthermore, residents state that the electricity supply depends on bill payments, which they do not receive on time.

Another critical point of contention is the unreliable power supply to Digwar, which they say is dependent on the Tongairi transformer, and the lineman of Digwar is not present at his duty.

When a fuse blows, the entire Digwar area is plunged into darkness.

Along with these demands the citizens are also emphasizing the dire situation of the bad internet service in Digwar.

According to them, students education has been severely affected due to the poor internet connection and this has impacted their access to education.

The protestors have threatened to maintain their protest until all their demands are fulfilled because regular electricity in the places of people is the right of each citizen.

The blockade at Tongairi Bridge that is still going on is creating major travel inconveniences for people who are passing through the bridge.
