RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): Law enforcement agencies have claimed to have arrested a member of a banned Action Committee during an operation in Rawalakot, recovered an American-made M4 rifle, and made a series of claims regarding the group’s activities.
According to security officials, the arrested suspect, identified as Zohaib Khalid, was taken into custody during an operation targeting alleged members of the banned organization. Authorities said an American-made M4 rifle was recovered from his possession.
Officials further alleged that video evidence obtained during the investigation shows armed members of the banned group carrying multiple weapons. They claim the organization was involved in attempts to create unrest in the region and target security personnel as well as civilians.
According to the official statement, Sepoy Ali Abbas sustained serious injuries after coming under fire during the operation and was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Security agencies also stated that the group’s leadership had been supplying activists with modern American-made M4 rifles. They further claimed that during initial questioning, the arrested suspect stated that the banned organization had announced a Rs. 10 million (Rs. 1 crore) reward for killing a Ranger or police official.
The claims regarding the suspect’s alleged confession, the recovered weapon, and the authenticity of the videos have not been independently verified. No response from representatives of the banned group was immediately available.
Authorities said investigations into the case are ongoing, and further legal proceedings will be carried out in accordance with the law.
