ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Senior journalist and analyst Absar Alam has said that the ban will remain imposed on the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) and that the government is not considering any relaxation in its position regarding cases registered against the group’s leadership.

In a YouTube vlog, Absar Alam said that despite efforts by various political and religious figures to facilitate dialogue, certain decisions taken by the authorities would remain unchanged.

“The ban on the Action Committee will not end for now, and despite whatever guarantees Maulana Fazlur Rehman gives, some important decisions will remain in place,” he said.

According to him, the government’s position is that the withdrawal of cases against individuals involved in previous unrest was a mistake that should not be repeated.

He further claimed that cases registered against several key leaders of the committee, including Sardar Aman, Khawaja Mehran, Khalid Nawaz, Shaukat Nawaz Kashmiri, and Sardar Umar Nazir, would not be withdrawn.

Absar Alam alleged that some individuals involved in the protests were linked to violent incidents that resulted in the deaths of police personnel, attacks on public property, and damage to government infrastructure. He argued that those accused of involvement in such incidents should be held accountable through the legal process.

“The main reason for this harsh decision is that these elements brutally killed police personnel under the guise of protest, ripped open their bellies, disemboweled them, and subjected their bodies to the worst desecration,” he said. “In addition to the worst chaos that was spread, government property was set on fire, and vehicles, including the CMH Hospital, were destroyed. No concession will be made to any character involved in these serious and horrific crimes.”
