KARACHI (Kashmir English): Babar Azam, captain of Peshawar Zalmi, has equalled a major world record held by Indian star Virat Kohli by becoming part of the most century partnerships in T20 cricket.
With this milestone, Babar has now been involved in 47 century stands in the shortest format, matching Kohli’s long-standing record
Chris Gayle and David Warner are third and fourth in the list with 46 and 45 such partnerships, respectively.
Peshawar Zalmi set a record in the 29th match of PSL played at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. Captain Babar Azam’s unbeaten century helped Zalmi post a mammoth 255 against Quetta Gladiators, the highest score in the history of this stadium.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi had scored 246 against Karachi Kings in the same season, but today’s score has surpassed all previous records for Zalmi and made it the third-highest total in the history of the league.
The highlight of this innings was the 135-run partnership between Babar Azam and Kaushal Mendis, with which Babar Azam completed the fastest century of his PSL career in just 52 balls, with 6 fours and 4 sixes.
With this milestone, he has also equaled the record of Kamran Akmal, Riley Rossouw, and Usman Khan for scoring the most centuries in the league.
Overall, this is Babar Azam’s 12th century in T20 cricket, after which he has moved to second place in the list of players who have scored the most centuries, where West Indies’ Chris Gayle is at the top with 22 centuries.
