Attempts being made to sabotage AJK elections: Tariq Fazal Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said that attempts are being made to sabotage free and fair elections in Azad Kashmir (AJK).

Speaking at a press conference with political leaders in the federal capital, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that the Azad Kashmir Assembly has completed its term.

He said that attempts are being made to sabotage what he called upcoming free and fair elections in Azad Kashmir. He said the government has accepted most of the demands of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).

The Federal Minister said that electricity is being provided at Rs3 per unit in Azad Kashmir, adding subsidies are being given on all essential commodities, including flour.

Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that the Prime Minister formed a high-level committee to negotiate with the Action Committee, and all clauses of the agreement with them have been implemented.

He said that the Joint Awami Action Committee tried to worsen the situation, and called for protests again.

The Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs said that the Joint Awami Action Committee demanded the abolition of seats for refugees, and the court also clarified that these constitutional seats cannot be abolished without legislation.

Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said that the Joint Action Committee wants to destroy the peace of Azad Kashmir, and the demand for e-tendering for electricity meters was also accepted.

He said that steps have been taken to improve internet services in Azad Kashmir, and the demand to reduce the number of departments has also been fulfilled.

“AJK govt accepted JAAC demands”

The Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs said that a feasibility study is also being conducted on the demand to build two tunnels, and authorities are working to operationalize Mirpur Airport.

Chaudhry said that citizens are being incited in Azad Kashmir, and questioned whether attempts are being made to weaken the strong relationship between Pakistan and Azad Kashmir.

He asked whether attempts are being made to weaken the Kashmir cause, adding that the whole world is currently watching Pakistan, and they will go to any extent for the freedom of Kashmir.

He added that the government has sincerely implemented the demands of the Joint Awami Action Committee, adding violence is not the solution to all problems.

Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan said that the Joint Awami Action Committee should not be stubborn, adding Government of Pakistan accepted most of the demands of the Joint Action Committee.

He said the government committee negotiated with the Joint Action Committee in good faith, and no one knows what agenda the Joint Action Committee is working on.
