MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Former member of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Israr Ahmed Abbasi, has appealed to the people of Azad Kashmir, particularly residents of Rawalakot, to distance themselves from the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).
In a statement, Abbasi, who also served as Deputy Speaker of the AJK Assembly, alleged that the activities associated with the committee had caused serious political, economic, and social consequences in several constituencies of Azad Kashmir.
He added that ordinary citizens had suffered as a result of prolonged unrest and disruptions, affecting access to education, healthcare, employment opportunities, daily necessities, and other essential services.
Abbasi alleged that those involved in the movement were harming not only the interests of the people but also the political and economic future of the Rawalakot region and Azad Kashmir.
He said that hundreds of young people had been affected by the prevailing situation and urged the public to recognize the long-term consequences of violence, unrest, and political instability.
The former legislator strongly criticized the leadership and supporters of the banned committee, describing them as misguided and opposed to democratic and constitutional political processes.
“The artisans of this sedition are neither revolutionaries nor people-friendly. All of them are sick, misguided, apolitical, undemocratic, criminal people,” he added.
He further claimed that the political and public response to the situation should be clear and consistent, warning that ambiguity or a dual approach towards those accused of promoting unrest could prove harmful to the people of the region.
The former AJK Assembly member called upon political leaders, intellectuals, and members of civil society to openly condemn violence and support peaceful and democratic processes.
Abbasi also urged citizens to reject calls that could lead to further unrest, stressing that the future of Azad Kashmir depended on peace, stability, democratic engagement and the protection of public interests.
He appealed particularly to the people of Rawalakot and other affected areas to remain vigilant and distance themselves from activities that could endanger peace and stability in the region.
