AJK PM Anwarul Haq reviews law and order situation during Muharram

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, chaired a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation during the upcoming Muharram.

The meeting emphasised the need to promote interfaith harmony and take strict action against those spreading religious hatred.

During the meeting, the administration briefed the Prime Minister about the arrangements for Muharram. The meeting was attended by the Most Senior Minister, Colonel (retd) Waqar Ahmed Noor, government ministers, Chief Secretary Khushal Khan, Secretary Services Zafar Mahmood Khan, Inspector General of Police Rana Abdul Jabbar, Secretary SDMA Chaudhry Muhammad Farid, and officials of other relevant institutions.

It was decided in the meeting that foolproof security arrangements will be made during Muharram, including ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
“Search and sweep operations will be conducted in old passages of mourning gatherings and Imambargahs,” the statement issued after the meeting read.

The meeting decided that the reporting scope of social media monitoring will be extended to 72 hours to keep a close watch on those spreading provocation and take immediate action.

Control rooms will be kept fully functional during Muharram, while it was also decided to establish a cabinet committee at the central level and divisional committees at the regional level.

The meeting also decided to determine SOPs, keeping in mind the security situation, through the meeting of the District Intelligence Committees to maintain law and order.

The meeting expressed its determination that the Azad Kashmir Police Department, along with other emergency departments, will utilize all available resources to restore law and order during Muharram.

Addressing the meeting, AJK Prime Minister Haq reiterated to work together to protect citizens and maintain an atmosphere of brotherhood in the society. “We have to discourage mischief and chaos, and religious harmony is a beautiful thought.”

The Prime Minister directed that the police and other security forces should be vigilant at all times during Muharram. He said that citizens should immediately report those who spread hatred.

He directed that government monitoring teams should also keep a watchful eye, and those who sabotage peace should be fully discouraged.
