MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Kashmir Food Authority has intensified its efforts to ensure the supply of quality milk in Muzaffarabad, sealing three shops and imposing heavy fines for selling adulterated milk.

According to the Food Authority statement, the Mobile Food Testing Laboratory detected a mixture of harmful powder and water in milk samples collected from shops in Chehla, Plate, and Bela Noor Shah.

The milk samples tested positive for Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP), a common adulterant used to increase the solid content of milk and maximize profits. However, this practice can compromise the nutritional value, taste, and quality of milk products, posing health risks to consumers, the statement added.

Furthermore, it added that the authority has taken action under the Food Authority Act 2017 and the Food Pure Regulation Act 2019, emphasizing its commitment to protecting public health.

District Food Controller Abrar Ahmed Mir stated that the Food Authority’s actions against substandard milk sellers are ongoing, with a focus on ensuring the supply of quality and safe food to the public.

He encouraged citizens to cooperate with the Food Authority by reporting any suspicious or substandard food items, milk, or beverages to the designated number 1280. Immediate action will be taken against those found selling adulterated or substandard products, the authority warned.
