MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Two police personnel were injured as an attempt to disrupt law and order in Muzaffarabad was foiled, bringing the situation under control, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police said on Friday.

In a press release, AJK Police Muzaffarabad Region spokesperson said that following the successful elections in Mirpur division, which the police described as a “huge failure for the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC)”, some elements allegedly made an unsuccessful attempt to create unrest and sabotage the electoral process in Muzaffarabad.

The spokesperson added that some mischievous elements tried to disrupt public order and attack the police by inciting violence at different locations in the city.

“According to initial reports, 200 to 300 people rioted at two to three different places in the city, which resulted in the injury of 02 police personnel, including Constable Zeeshan,” police said.

“However, the police, displaying professional skills, patience, and responsibility, prevented the situation from escalating further.”

The police statement, citing available evidence and preliminary investigation, claimed that these activities aimed to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the upcoming general election, scheduled to be held in Muzaffarabad division on August 02, and to affect the law and order situation.

However, the spokesperson added, due to timely action by the police, the situation remained completely under control, and the democratic process was protected.
