AJK cabinet takes action against former minister Asim Butt in fake state subject case

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) cabinet on Friday took action against the former law state minister and the member of the legislative assembly (MLA), Asim Butt, over the fake state subject case.

The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, cancelled the state subject and domicile of Muhammad Asim Sharif Butt, elected on a refugee seat from Multan after being declared illegally issued to him through fake documents.

It approved the agenda item “Cancellation of Resident State Certificate against Muhammad Asim Sharif Butt, son of Muhammad Sharif Butt, resident of Mohalla Androon Haram Gate, Mohalla Talan Wali, Multan.”

Moreover, the cabinet approved the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Service Tribunals Amendment Act, 2026, the revised budget of Bagh Development Authority (BDA) for 2024-25, the estimated budget for 2025-26, and the Khalsa Sarkar land for Police Station Sharda.

The cabinet also formed a committee under the chairmanship of the Finance Minister on the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Grant of Khalsa Sarkar (Ground Rent and Lease) Amendment Rules, 2025. The Cabinet was also briefed about Mirpur Healthcare Hospital.

Overseas Kashmiris Convention

Addressing the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Rathore said that the Overseas Kashmiris Convention will prove to be a milestone for Azad Kashmir. Overseas Kashmiris are our valuable asset, and their suggestions will be made a part of the government policy, he said.

He said that full participation of Overseas Kashmiris in investment, tourism, and welfare projects will be ensured so that the process of development of the state can be further accelerated.

The Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir said that the purpose of organizing the Convention is to provide an opportunity to Overseas Kashmiris to play a practical role in the construction and development of the state.

He said that the government is taking serious steps to solve the problems faced by Overseas Kashmiris and provide a conducive environment for investment.

The premier said that the government has tried to restore the confidence of the people in its short tenure and fast-track the process of construction and development. The doors of the Prime Minister, ministers, and bureaucracy are always open to solve the problems of the common man on a priority basis.

The meeting was attended by Cabinet members, the Chief Secretary, Secretaries to the Government, and other concerned officials.
