RIYADH (Kashmir English): The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has suspended 21 Umrah service companies after a comprehensive review of their performance during the past Umrah season.
The decision was taken to enhance the quality of services provided to the pilgrims. The ministry noted that some service providers had shortcomings regarding the facilities and assistance provided.
Several Umrah service providers have failed to provide standard facilities and assistance to the pilgrims, in addition to failing the regulatory tests, as some failed to adhere to rules and regulations.
“15 out of 21 Umrah companies were unable to adhere to the regulations about performance and service quality, while the other six companies failed due to violation of regulations and were asked to take necessary action,” officials said. Authorities confirmed that they employ a thorough system to check the performance of Umrah service providers.
A whole system has been established, through various indicators, to check their service, performance, and regulations. According to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the purpose of the new measure is to promote a fair and healthy competition, uplift the standards of service and work as per Saudi Vision 2030, about enhancing and improving the pilgrims’ and visitors’ experience at the holy sites.
The ministry reaffirmed that the rights of Umrah pilgrims and visitors of the Prophet’s Mosque (PBUH) are its primary concern and that negligence in service quality would not be overlooked.
In the long run, it further announced that monitoring and checking of Umrah service companies would continue.
