Punjab govt announces Eid-ul-Azha holidays

LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Punjab government has announced three Eid-ul-Azha holidays across the province from May  26 to 28.

According to the official notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department, the residents across Punjab will enjoy three-day holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

“It is notified for general information that 26th, 27th, and 28th May, 2026 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) shall be observed as Public Holidays in the Province of Punjab on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha,” the notification reads.

Earlier, the KP govt announced four public holidays in relation to Eid-ul-Azha. These public holidays will be observed from Tuesday, May 26, to Friday, May 29, and on those days, government offices and educational institutions shall be closed in the province.

It has been stated in a notification released by the Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that government offices and educational institutions shall remain closed on the days of public holiday.

However, departments that are responsible for emergency and rescue services will continue to operate as per their usual routine.

Sindh Eid-ul-Azha holidays

The Sindh government on Friday announced a four-day holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, set to be celebrated on May 27 (Wednesday).

In an official notification, the provincial government said that all government and autonomous bodies will remain closed from May 26 to May 29.

Muslims community in Pakistan would observe Eid-ul-Adha on May 27 as per the announcement of the moon sighting Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after the crescent for the month of Zil Hajj was sighted.

SBP also announces Eid-ul-Azha holidays

Meanwhile, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has also announced a three-day holiday plan on account of Eid-ul-Adha 2026, falling on May 27.

This year’s Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on coming Wednesday as per the announcement by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, announced the committee’s meeting held in Karachi.

With the official confirmation, Muslims across the country will observe 10th Zilhaj, the Eid-ul-Azha on May 27, marking one of the most significant Islamic festivals, celebrated with special prayers and the ritual of animal sacrifice.

As per the SBP statement, it will remain closed from May 26th to May 28th (Tuesday to Thursday), being public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.

The Pakistan government had also officially notified a three-day holiday period on the occasion of Eid al-Azha 2026.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved public holidays on 26, 27, and 28 May. Following the PM’s approval, all government offices will remain closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
