ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): This week, Pakistan will experience three days of continuous holidays, which provide its people three days of extra time off because Labour Day falls on a weekend, creating a three-day holiday that extends throughout the nation.

The official public holiday schedule states that Labour Day will be celebrated on May 1, which falls on a Friday, and that regular weekly holidays will follow this holiday.

The alignment of these two holidays creates a three-day holiday period that lasts from May 1 to May 3 for employees who work on a standard five-day workweek.

According to the official schedule, Pakistan will observe an extended holiday period in May 2026, which will include 19 official non-working days due to the combination of weekly off days, Labour Day, and expected Eid holidays.

The proposed calendar for May 2026 will provide citizens with multiple extended weekends throughout the month, which will create frequent opportunities for breaks.

The Eid holidays, which are expected to start between 26 and 28 May, depending on moon sighting, will provide public and private sector employees with extended rest days, which create a continuous break period.

Expected holidays for Eid-ul-Azha 2026

According to early projections, the Eid ul-Azha holiday is expected to take place between May 27 and May 29, which is the period from Wednesday to Friday if the moon is sighted on May 17.

However, the celebration will probably take place between May 28 and May 30, which falls on Thursday to Saturday if the Islamic month reaches its full 30-day duration.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee must confirm these dates before they become official. The holiday window could expand further if the weekend aligns with the Eid holidays.

If Saturday and Sunday (May 30 and 31) are included, many people may enjoy a continuous five-day break. If holidays start one day before the regular schedule, people will receive six days off, which allows them to return home and spend time with their families.

Eid-ul-Azha, one of the most important Islamic festivals in Pakistan, is marked by special prayers, sacrifice, and gatherings. The official public holiday schedule will be announced according to the lunar calendar.

The expected extended break is especially welcome for those working in different cities, giving them a rare opportunity to travel home and spend more time with loved ones during the festive period.
