ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Users are facing difficulties using X, formerly known as Twitter, since Monday afternoon globally, including Pakistan.
According to the internet tracking monitor Downdetector, more than 9,800 reports of issues with the social media platform have been made since 9 AM Eastern Time, Reuters reported.
X was also down for over 1,300 users in Canada, as of 10:16 a.m. ET, and for over 1,400 users in the UK, as of 10:18 a.m. ET. SpaceX, which owns X, did not immediately respond to Reuters‘ request for comment on what caused the outage.
The complaints of issues quickly surged to nearly 30,000 after only a small number of complaints had been recorded earlier in the morning.
Users quickly flocked to Downdetector’s comment section, turning the outage page into a makeshift chat room while waiting for service to return. The outages have been reported by thousands of users across several countries, including the US, UK, India, and Pakistan.

NetBlocks, which also monitors outages, also confirmed that social media network X is “experiencing international outages for a second consecutive day” amid timeline backend API errors.
“Incident not related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering,” it added.
Facebook, Instagram disrupted
Earlier on June 12, the services of social media platforms Facebook and Instagram were disrupted in several countries, including Pakistan.
According to outage-tracking websites Downdetector, complaints began rising sharply on June 12 as users reported error messages while attempting to access Facebook and Instagram.
Similar issues have also been reported on Instagram and the desktop version of WhatsApp, suggesting a broader disruption affecting Meta-owned platforms.
Many users also reported problems with the WhatsApp desktop service and Threads. Some were unable to log in, while others experienced slow loading times and connection errors.
Independent outage monitoring platforms registered a sharp increase in complaints during the same period, suggesting the disruptions were not confined to a single country or region.
As of the latest updates, Meta has not released a detailed explanation regarding the cause of the service disruptions. The company had not provided a specific timeline for the full restoration of services across its platforms.
